Eggs are the key ingredient your hair needs! They’re rich in protein, contain vitamins (A, B, D) and fatty acids.

Your hair will benefit from these nutrients in many ways, they:

  • stimulate hair growth
  • moisturize
  • prevent hair loss
  • reduce split ends
  • smooth out the hair
  • strengthen the hair
  • boost up volume
  • add extra shine
  • condition

Eating eggs will improve your hair and applying them topically will just increase the effect.

I’ve been adding eggs to my homemade hair masks and they work really great. I love how my hair feels after having a protein treatment. So soft, shiny and healthy!

Check out how to add protein to your hair with these natural homemade hair masks:

For dry hair

Adding olive oil will give the dry damaged hair some extra moisture, and the coconut oil will condition, soften the hair and speed up the hair growth.

You will need:

  • One egg
  • One egg yolk
  • 3 teaspoons of olive oil
  • 3 teaspoons of coconut oil

Break one egg and add it to a bowl. Break another, adding just the yolk. Whisk the eggs together with the oils, until you get a creamy mixture.

Apply to damp hair, so it’ll be easier to comb through the strands. Start from the roots and work your ways to the ends, making sure each part of your hair is covered.

Leave it on for 30 minutes, then rinse off with lukewarm water and your regular shampoo.

Whisk the eggs, olive oil and water together until you get a smooth mixture. Apply to damp hair, massaging the mixture on your scalp and down the ends, making sure all your hair is covered. Leave it on for 30 minutes, then rinse off with lukewarm water and shampoo.

For oily hair

You don’t need to add extra moisture from the yolk, so for this treatment you’ll need only the egg whites. Coconut oil is my favorite hair care ingredient, and don’t worry- it won’t boost oiliness. Honey will nourish the scalp and fight off bacteria.

You will need:

  • 2 egg whites
  • 1 teaspoon of honey
  • 3 teaspoons of coconut oil

Break the eggs and separate the yolks from the whites, adding the whites into a bowl. Whisk thoroughly. Add honey and coconut oil, and mix together until you get a smooth mixture. Apply to damp hair, massage gently onto your scalp and spread the mask down the ends using a wide- toothed comb. Make sure all your hair is covered. Leave it on for 30 minutes, then rinse off with lukewarm water and your regular shampoo. Enjoy your strong, conditioned, smooth hair!

Extra tips:

  • If you have longer hair, add some more of the listed ingredients, if it’s shorter, use less.
  • Things can get messy, so make sure you wear an old shirt.
  • After applying, tie your hair in a bun or apply a shower cap so the mask won’t drop on your face or shoulders.
  • Don’t leave it on for too long- 30 to 40 minutes is quite enough, if you leave it on for hours it may make it harder to remove.
  • Don’t rinse off with hot water- it will make the egg mixture sticky and harder to remove.
  • Wash your hair thoroughly- rinse off/shampoo 2-3 times, you don’t want any leftovers on your hair!
  • Be consistent- for best results, remember to do this treatment once a week or at least two times a month.

Another thing to do is follow these 10 commandments for long, healthy hair .
