The Catrice Prime and Fine primer is the only makeup base I’ve been using lately, so I figured I should give it a full review on my blog! I bought this product around 7 months ago after discovering the Prime and Fine eyeshadow base (which is one of my favorite makeup gems of 2017), and I haven’t found a drugstore primer that comes close to it yet.
Having combination acne prone skin and huge pores on my cheeks makes me extremely picky when it comes to face makeup. That being said, I don’t own a big collection of primers, so you can imagine my excitement when I finally found a pore refining base that won’t break my budget!
What Catrice claims
Prime And Fine Pore Refining And Anti-Shine Base
- Minimizes unwanted shine
- Visibly refines the pores
- Makes foundation last longer
The ideal preparation for shine-free looks. The Pore Refining And Anti-Shine Base minimizes unwanted shine and visibly refines your pores. The ultra-light formula also improves the durability of foundation. A true beauty perfectionist.
The product comes in a light tube that fits in the palm of my hand. It has a clean black & white design with the product name on the front and description and ingredients on the back. Love the simplicity of it!
Translucent – at first it looks white but becomes clear and leaves no color when applied, just like any moisturizer.
Now here’s where things get interesting – this formula is unlike anything I’ve ever tried. It’s water – based, which is great for acne prone skin. At first it feels a bit sticky, but it sets in very quickly and creates a smooth base for my foundation. It’s lightweight and feels similar to applying a moisturizer. I only need a small amount to cover my face, so a little goes a long way. It’s very long-wearing and mattifying, and helps me control the oil around my T zone, without drying the rest of my skin. Now it’s starting to look like I’m just repeating the product description, but this primer really lives up to its claims! The formula makes my foundation stick to it and last a lot longer, and also works well with my other makeup products – they don’t move around or smudge.
What I love about it the most is the pore refining bit – my pores don’t magically disappear, but they are less visible and my skin looks so smooth! The pore minimizing effect is similar to the one I get from the Benefit Porefessional primer, though I can’t say this is a dupe because the formulas are very different.
- Great for oily, combination and acne prone skin
- Makes pores less visible
- Reduces shine
- Makes foundation last longer
- Makes skin smooth
- A little goes a long way
- Affordable price
Would I buy it again? I already got a second tube, and would definitely buy a third one if I don’t discover another great drugstore primer in the future!
If you’re interested in trying out this primer, you can get one at Ulta or Amazon.
